Moravian Wins Twice on Opening Day of Knights Invitational at Neumann University

ASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team defeated Rosemont College, 3-0, and Widener University, 3-1, on the opening day of the Knights Invitational hosted by Neumann University Friday evening.

The Greyhounds swept Rosemont in the opener by set scores of 25-7, 25-15, 25-20. Sophomore middle blocker Jess Appleton led the squad with eight kills while sophomore outside hitters Kirah Dreisbach and Sela Herber each contributing seven kills with Dreisbach adding seven service aces and six digs. Sophomore middle blocker Renee Mapa added six kills while junior right side hitter Emerson Gieryic had four kills. Senior setter Victoria Kauffman led the Moravian offense with 18 assists to go with four digs while freshman setter Natalia Matos had four assists and freshman defensive specialist Gabby Mineo had three assists.

The Blue and Grey dropped the first set to Widener, 25-16, before defeating the Pride 26-24, 25-23, 25-16 for the victory. Herber led Moravian with 16 kills, 12 digs and a pair of blocks while Dreisbach added 12 kills and 15 digs. Mapa also had 14 kills to go along with six blocks while Appleton contributed 11 kills and three digs. Freshman ride side hitter Maddie Houchens had four kills while Kauffman ran the offense with 47 assists to go with 19 digs and two blocks. Senior defensive specialist Alexis Szaro contributed 11 digs and a pair of kills wile Matos had 10 digs and Mineo added six digs and three assists.

The Hounds finish their trip to the Knights Invitational on Saturday, September 21 with a match versus Hood (Md.) College beginning at 10:00 a.m.
