Hounds Advance to the 2022 Landmark Conference Championship Match after Knocking Off Top Seeded Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The fourth seeded Moravian University field hockey team knocked off top seed The University of Scranton, 1-0, in the Landmark Conference Semifinals Wednesday evening as the Greyhounds scored with less than two minutes to play to reach the conference championship match for the first time in program history. 

How It Happened

  • The squads played a scoreless first quarter with the Royals holding a 6-1 advantage in shots after 15 minutes of action
  • The second quarter was also scoreless as Scranton had a 3-1 edge on shots in the quarter
  • The scoreless play continued through the third quarter with the Royals holding a 5-4 advantage in the quarter
  • Moravian netted the only goal of the contest with 1:49 left in regulation as senior midfielder Maddie Call put a long shot on the right side into the cage
  • The Greyhounds, who had made the postseason last fall for the first time since 1987, will travel to third seed The Catholic University of America for the 2022 Landmark Conference Championship match with the Cardinals knocking off second seed Susquehanna University, 1-0, in Wednesday's other semifinal contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Call's goal was her third of the season and the 15th of her career with the Greyhounds.
  • Senior goalie Brooke Wilkinson made seven saves in her sixth shutout of the season. Wilkinson now has 21 career victories and 11 career shutouts for Moravian over the last two seasons
  • Scranton finished the contest with an 18-10 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in penalty corners
