TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University women’s outdoor track & field squad has had had 11 student-athletes garner 18 All-Conference selections from the Landmark Conference for their performances at the 2024 Landmark Outdoor Championships last weekend hosted by Elizabethtown College as the Greyhounds took third in the championships.
The Hounds had three student-athletes garner All-Conference First Team accolades with junior Abby Giamoni winning both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes and being honored as the Landmark Conference Women’s Track Performer of the Year after scoring 23 points this past weekend.
“In 20 years of coaching, I can’t think of an athlete who works harder, or takes the sport more seriously than Abby does,” stated Director of Cross Country and track & Field Jesse Baumann. “She’s extremely hard on herself to do everything right from her preparation throughout the entire calendar year to race execution in every single race so she truly has earned everything she has achieved. The conference was once again extremely strong this year and the 200-400 double is among the tougher ones at the meet. As usual she got out extremely hard through the first half of each race as she’s setting herself up to try to make NCAA qualifying times. It certainly makes the last half of the races painful but she’s as gritty as anyone we’ve had here so she finds a way to dig down and finish strong. The times in the 200 weren’t as fast as she's capable of due to cool weather, but it was an exceptional 400 time and a tremendous weekend with what she also gave the team on her 4x1 and 4x4 legs.”
Also earning First Team honors were sophomore Tara Smurla won both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs and sophomore Margie Rayne captured the discus title.
Moravian had a pair of Second Team honorees for finishing as the runner-up in their events including junior Caillie Fish in the hammer throw and senior Lexi Groff in the high jump.
The Blue & Grey garnered 11 Honorable Mention accolades with Giamoni, Groff, sophomore Shai Knight and freshman Rachele Grigoli earning the honor in the 4x100-meter relay, and Giamoni, Knight, Grigoli and junior Ashley Rodrigues in the 4x400-meter relay. Junior Rachael Goodman was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while sophomore Ali Haefele took third in the triple jump and senior Vicky Donovan finished third in the javelin.
