Seven Greyhounds Garner 2024 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Metro Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women's track & field team has had seven student-athletes selected for eight spots on the 2024 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.

For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The program must also be a member of the USTFCCCA. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.

Moravian had seven individual selections. Sophomore Tara Smurla was All-Region in both the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter runs. Smurla had the third-best time in the region of 17:43.97 in the 5,000-meter run at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships on May 5, and she had the top time in the region in the 10,000-meter run when she set the school record with a time of 36:08.51 at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic on April 13.

Junior Amber Poniktera earned All-Region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with the fifth-best time of 11:40.41 at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships on May 15 while junior Abby Giamoni garnered a spot in the 400-meter dash with the fourth-best regional time of 57.15 seconds at the Landmark Conference Championships on May 5.

Senior Lexi Groff was named All-Region in the high jump with the region's best height as well as a school and Landmark Conference record of 1.68 meters (5-6) at the Widener University Final Qualifier on May 13 while sophomore Ali Haefele was All-Region in the triple jump at the fourth-best distance of 11.66 meters (38-3.25) at the Stockton University Osprey Open on March 30.

Sophomore Margie Rayne garnered All-Region in the discus with the region's third-ranked toss of 42.40 meters (139-1) at the Coach Pollard Invitational on April 20 while senior Vicky Donovan earned All-Region in the javelin with the third-best mark of 37.72 meters (123-9) at the DeSales University Tri-Meet on April 13.
