MALVERN, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team scored three times in the third quarter then waited out a 30-minute lightning delay with under three minutes to play to post a 3-2 victory at Immaculata University in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
The Greyhounds and the Mighty Macs played a scoreless first half before Immaculata opened the scoring just under four minutes into the third quarter. The Hounds answered with three goals in a seven-minute span including two within 37 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. Freshman midfielder Emily Wells netted her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute when she knocked in a pass from senior forward Sara Cruz to knot the score at 1-1. Just 37 seconds later, junior defender Talea Gordon scored an unassisted tally to give the Blue and Grey the lead for good.
Cruz made it a 3-1 match in the 44th minute when she scored on a penalty stroke while the Mighty Macs pulled within a goal at 3-2 with just over eight minutes to play.
Moravian junior goalie Ashley Kunsman recorded six saves in the victory.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 7 when the squad hosts William Paterson University in a non-conference contest beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
