ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team needed a shootout to earn a 1-0 victory at Cedar Crest College Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds and the Falcons played four scoreless 15-minute quarters and a pair of 10-minute overtimes before heading to the shootout.

Once the teams entered the shootout, Moravian went first with freshman midfielder Emily Wells being stopped, and the Falcons also missed on their first attempt. Greyhound junior defender Talea Gordon started the second round with a goal to put the Hounds up 1-0, and junior goalie Ashley Kunsman made a save to keep the Blue and Grey ahead. Senior forward Sara Cruz was stopped in the third round while Kunsman had another stop to keep Moravian leading in the shootout. Junior midfielder Mae Dienes scored for the Greyhounds in the fourth round of the shootout, and when Cedar Crest's attempt was wide of the cage, the Hounds celebrated the victory.

Kunsman recorded 13 saves through regulation and the two overtime periods, and sophomore defender Emily Brandt added a defensive save.

"Today was a hard-fought battle that we relied heavily on a full team effort," commented Head Coach Kristen Powers. "Getting down to shootouts is always a tough way to end but we focused when we needed. Talea and Mae executing and Ashley being a brick wall really sealed the deal to get the win and be rewarded for the long battle."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, September 24 when the squad hosts Lancaster Bible College in a non-conference contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
