Wells' Hat Trick Leads Moravian Past Lancaster Bible College

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College freshman midfielder Emily Wells netted her first career hat trick and the 19th three-goal in program history to lead the Greyhound field hockey squad to a 7-1 non-conference victory over visiting Lancaster Bible College Tuesday evening on John Makuvek Field.

Wells opened the scoring just 3:01 into action when she dribbled down the right side and fired a shot just inside the left post of the cage for her third goal of the season. Wells needed just 1:07 to double the lead as she knocked in a pass from junior midfielder Nicole Grayuski. The Hounds, who have now won two consecutive contests, made it 3-0 when senior forward Kylie Mastricola netted an unassisted tally for the first goal of her career with 1:04 to play in the first quarter.

Sophomore midfielder Olivia Emrick knocked in a cross from junior midfielder Mae Dienes two minutes into the second quarter for Emrick's first career goal. Wells stretched the lead to 5-0 and completed her hat trick as she tapped in a long hit from Grayuski while standing at the left post to end the scoring in the first half.

The Blue and Grey would score once in each of the third and fourth quarters before the Chargers finished of the scoring. Sophomore forward Ava Edwards scored in the 36th minute while senior forward Sara Cruz tapped in a ball sent towards the net by freshman forward Mackenzie Jakobsen about five minutes into the final period for the Hounds' final marker.

Junior goalie Ashley Kunsman made the start in the cage for the Greyhounds and had one save in 15 minutes of action while freshman goalie Brooke Wilkinson played the other 45 minutes with one save.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 28 when the squad heads to Juniata College to open the 2019 Landmark Conference season with a 4:30 p.m. match against the Eagles.
