No. 10 Moravian Sweeps Another Doubleheader at Susquehanna for Two More Road Victories

SELSINGROVE, Pa. --- The No. 10 Moravian College softball team earned its eighth doubleheader sweep of the season and remained undefeated as the Greyhounds won 6-5 and 7-3 in a Landmark Conference doubleheader at Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the opener. Senior catcher Brooke Wehr had an RBI single to score the first run while freshman designated player Ajala Elmore connected on a three-RBI triple with the bases loaded
  • Susquehanna scored three times in the bottom of the third inning to pull within a run at 4-3
  • The Blue and Grey answered with a run in the top of the fourth inning when Wehr ripped an RBI double, and Moravian made it a 6-3 contest with the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double from sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides
  • The River Hawks added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Hounds finished off the game
  • Senior Meghan Bauer came on in relief to earn her fourth win of the season with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Junior Alexandria Scheeler had made the start in the circle and had one strikeout in 2.1 innings 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Greyhounds would take a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning of the second contest as senior second baseman Shannon Brogan connected on a three-run homer, her first home run of the season and fourth of her career
  • Moravian added two runs in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Agrapides and an RBI single from junior outfielder Victoria Smith to extend the advantage to 5-0
  • Susquehanna scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Hounds' edge to 5-3
  • The Blue and Grey scored twice more in the top of the sixth inning with one run scoring on an error and the other crossing the plate after senior outfielder Maura Kane was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel improved to 7-0 in the circle with a complete game for the Greyhounds 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 21 hits between the two contests with Smith going 5-for-6 and scoring three runs
  • Brogan was 4-for-8 with three RBIs and her homer while Wehr and Kane were both 3-for-6 on the afternoon with Wehr scoring three times, driving in three runs and becoming the 19th player in program history to 150 career hits. Agrapides was 3-for-8 with two runs and two RBIs
  • The Greyhounds had seven extra-base hits in the doubleheader and now have 48 extra-base hits on the season in just 16 games
