No. 4 Hounds Top Susquehanna to Advance to 2021 Landmark Conference Championship Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The top seed and No. 4 Moravian College softball team defeated fourth seed Susquehanna University, 10-2 in five innings, in the Landmark Conference Tournament Pod game four Sunday to advance to the 2021 Landmark Conference Championship Series on May 15-16, which will also be at Blue & Grey Field versus second seed The University of Scranton. 

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored twice in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer
  • Moravian would get on the scoreboard with a run in the second inning as senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber connected on a two-out double and scored on an RBI single from senior left fielder Maura Kane
  • The Greyhounds broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the third to take an 8-2 edge. Junior first baseman/pitcher Alexandria Scheeler gave the Blue and Grey a 3-2 lead as she ripped a bases-loaded, two-RBI single. Bieber added an RBI single while Kane drew a walk with bases loaded for an RBI. Freshman pinch runner Paige Parisi raced home on a wild pitch while junior right fielder Victoria Smith drove in the final two runs of the inning with a two-RBI single
  • Moravian scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to get to the NCAAs eight-run rule and end the contest early. The Hounds loaded the bases with two outs before senior second baseman Shannon Brogan connected on a two-RBI single to finish the afternoon
  • Senior Meghan Bauer started in the circle and improved to 8-0 on the year with a pair of strikeouts in three innings of action. Scheeler tossed the final two innings with one strikeout

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 12 hits with Smith, Brogan, Bieber and senior catcher Brooke Wehr were each 2-for-3 with Smith and Brogan adding two RBIs, Bieber hitting a double and Wehr contributing a stolen base
  • Wehr's two hits gave her 50 for the season, her third 50-hit campaign of her career
  • Kane had a pair of RBIs while sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides scored twice and a had a pair of base-on-balls
