No. 9 Moravian Clinches Top Seed in 2021 Landmark Conference Tournament with Sweep at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The No. 9 Moravian College softball team swept its 12th doubleheader of the season and the 10th twinbill in Landmark Conference action as the Greyhounds defeated host Elizabethtown College, 4-0 and 7-1, Saturday to clinch the top seed in the 2021 Landmark Conference Tournament. 

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when senior catcher Brooke Wehr connected on an RBI double just three batters into the contest
  • Moravian doubled its edge to 2-0 in the top of the third as Wehr had another RBI hit as she ripped a single to score sophomore shortstop Alexis Agarpides for the second time in the game
  • The Blue and Grey doubled the advantage again to 4-0 in the top of the fourth when Agaripdes connected on her team-leading fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel earned her 11th win of the season with her fourth shutout, and Hummel added three strikeouts in the contest 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Hounds jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning as senior third baseman Maddisen Bieber hit an RBI double and senior left fielder Maura Kane connected on an RBI single
  • Moravian would double the advantage to 4-0 in the top of the third on RBI singles from Wehr and junior first baseman Alexandria Scheeler
  • The Greyhounds scored a run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from freshman designated player Emily Silberman to make it a 5-0 lead
  • The Blue & Grey tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the sixth for a 7-0 edge. Freshman Paige Parisi hit an RBI single for the first hit of her collegiate career before Wehr connected on an RBI single
  • The Blue Jays scored their lone run of the afternoon in the bottom of the seventh inning
  • Senior pitcher Meghan Bauer improved to 7-0 in the circle, and she struck out eight batters in the contest 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 25 hits on the afternoon with Agrapides and Wehr each going 5-for-8 with Agrapides adding three runs, a double, a homer and two RBIs and Wehr contributing four RBIs, two runs and a double
  • Junior right fielder Victoria Smith was 3-for-6 while Silberman, Bieber, Scheeler and junior center fielder Cameron Cassidy all had two hits
