No. 4 Greyhounds Top Susquehanna in First Game of Landmark Conference Tournament Pod

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 4 Moravian College softball squad won its opening game of the 2021 Landmark Conference Tournament Pod with a 9-1, six-inning victory over fourth seed Susquehanna University as the top seeded Greyhounds advanced to the second day of the pod at Blue & Grey Field. 

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning
  • Moravian would get on the scoreboard with a run in the third frame, as the Blue & Grey knotted the score at 1-1 on an RBI single from sophomore shortstop Alexis Agrapides
  • The Greyhounds took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning that included an RBI single from freshman designated player Emily Silberman, and an RBI single by Agrapides with an error on the play, and an RBI single off the bat of junior outfielder Victoria Smith
  • Moravian tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth when Silberman connected on a three-run homer to left center field for her first career home run
  • The Hounds scored the final run on an RBI sacrifice fly by junior first baseman Alexandria Scheeler to reach the NCAAs eight-run rule and end the contest
  • Sophomore Madison Hummel improved to 13-0 in the circle as she struck out two batters in the complete game

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 14 hits with senior catcher Brooke Wehr going 3-for-4. Silberman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Scheeler went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI
  • Agrapides and senior second baseman Shannon Brogan were each 2-for-4 with a runs scored and Agrapides driving in two runs
