Moravian Falls at Elizabethtown in 2019-20 Landmark Conference Opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to host Elizabethtown College in the 2019-20 Landmark Conference opener for both schools Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds, now 5-3 on the season, had two players in double figures led by senior guard Karlie Brogan, who netted 21 points to go with six rebounds. Freshman forward Emily Markowski scored a career-high 10 points while adding career bests of nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior guard Maddie Capuano contributed nine points and three rebounds while freshman guard Madison Amy had seven points, three rebounds and a trio of steals.

Freshman guard Morgan Amy added six points, three assists and a pair of rebounds while junior forward Jordan Beneducci had six points, a career-high five assists and two rebounds in her first career start. Junior guard Adrienne Amey had one point and one point while sophomore guards Kayla Yoegel and Alix Buskirk and freshman guard Jackie Kelly all had two rebounds. Senior guard Brooke Santy added one board.

The Blue Jays scored the first four points of the game before Capuano hit on a lay-up for the Hounds' first points of the afternoon. Elizabethtown moved out to a seven-point edge at 9-2 before and 8-2 run by the Blue and Grey cut the lead to 11-10 on a lay-up by Madison Amy with 2:35 on the clock. Morgan Amy finished the opening quarter with a late jumper as Moravian trailed 15-14 after 10 minutes of action.

Brogan hit a jumper to start the second quarter to give the Greyhounds their first lead of the contest at 16-15. The Blue Jays moved back in front before Capuano hit two free throws with 3:32 before the intermission as Moravian took a 25-23 lead. However, Elizabethtown finished the half with a 9-0 run to head to the locker room with a 32-25 edge.

Markowski opened the scoring in the third quarter, and Moravian was within four points at 39-35 after a lay-up from Morgan Amy with 4:35 left in the period. The Blue Jays had a 13-3 run to finish the quarter as they led 52-38 after 30 minutes of play. The Hounds were unable to get closer than 11 points during the fourth quarter.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, December 14 when the squad hosts Immaculata University in a non-conference contest tipping off at 2:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall.
