Spirk Among 2020 WBCA Victory Club Honorees

Mary Beth Spirk honored with Women's Basketball Coaches Association Victory Club for 600th career win.

ATLANTA, Ga. --- Moravian College Head Women's Basketball Coach Mary Beth Spirk is among the 45 high school and college coaches being honored by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for hitting a milestone victory during the 2019-20 season.

The WBCA Victory Club honor is bestowed annually on each WBCA-member head coach who achieves a milestone of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more career victories during the current season on the level of competition at which they currently coach. Victories recorded at differing levels of competition cannot be combined.

Spirk was one of 11 coaches to reach 600 victories during the year. Spirk, who now has a record of 610-296 after her 33rd year leading the Hounds, became the eighth active NCAA Division III coach and 19th overall Division III coach to reach 600 career victories on December 3, 2019 as Moravian rallied from a 13-point deficit to defeat rival Muhlenberg College, 58-54, in Johnston Hall.

The win over the rival Mules was Spirk's second milestone victory over rival Muhlenberg in Johnston Hall as she picked up win number 300 versus the Mules on January 26, 2004. She has hit three milestones on the road and three in Johnston Hall.

At the time of the 600-win milestone, Spirk was the 33rd active NCAA coach across all divisions with 600 career wins and the 71st coach at any level of the NCAA to earn 600 victories. Later in the season, three other Division III coaches joined the 600-win club.

Spirk is slated to begin her 34th season at Moravian on Wednesday, November 11 when the Greyhounds will start the 2020-21 campaign versus her alma mater Dickinson College in Johnston Hall.
