BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball squad is the fourth seed in the 2020 Landmark Conference Tournament and is set to travel to top seed The University of Scranton in a semifinal contest on Wednesday, February 26 tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in the John Long Center in Scranton.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children. All youth under the age of 10 are admitted free as are all students, faculty and staff with a valid ID from any of the eight Landmark Conference institutions. College students without a Landmark school ID and seniors are $4.
The Greyhounds are 15-10 overall this winter and finished the Landmark regular season with an 8-6 mark while the No. 14 Royals are 22-3 overall and were 12-2 in Landmark action. During the regular season, the Royals swept the regular season series, winning 74-48 in Bethlehem on January 15 and 64-57 at the John Long Center on February 12. This marks the fourth straight year that Moravian has headed to Scranton for the semifinals, and it is the ninth time the schools have met in the Landmark Conference Tournament and the seventh time at the John Long Center.
Wednesday's other semifinal game has second seed The Catholic University of America hosting third seed Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m. The top remaining seed will host the 2020 Landmark Conference title game on Saturday, February 29 with an automatic berth to the 2020 NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.
Hounds' Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk has the Blue and Grey heading to the postseason for the 19th consecutive season, and for the 30th time in her 33 seasons leading the Moravian program. The Greyhounds are making their 12th Landmark Conference Tournament appearance after missing out in 2014-15 on a tiebreaker for the first time in the history of the conference. Spirk has a career record of 610-295 and is looking to lead the Greyhounds to their fourth conference title that would go with a Landmark Championship in 2010 and Middle Atlantic Conference titles in 1991 and 1992. Spirk has led Moravian to the NCAA Division III Tournament nine times in her tenure including the NCAA Division III National Championship game in 1992 and a first round win at the University of New England in 2016, the program's last NCAA tournament appearance.
Senior guard Maddie Capuano leads the Greyhounds with an average of 18.5 points per game, and she also has a team-high 49 three-pointers to go with 95 rebounds, 39 assists and 34 steals. Capuano enters the postseason ranked fourth in program history with 1,692 points, and she is second all-time with 215 three-pointers and seventh with 285 assists. Senior forward Nadine Ewald is contributing a double-double with averages of 15.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per contest, to go along with a team-high 36 blocked shots, 60 assists and 32 steals. Ewald is currently 13th in school history with 1,251 points, third all-time with 903 boards and eighth with 105 blocked shots in her career.
Senior guard Karlie Brogan is netting 7.1 points and grabbing 6.5 rebounds per outing to go with a team-high 43 steals, 48 assists and 17 blocked shots, and Brogan ranks 14th in the record books with 618 career rebounds. Sophomore guard Kayla Yoegel is tossing in 6.8 points per game to go with 99 rebounds, 24 blocked shots, 21 assists, 18 steals and 18 three-pointers in her first season as a starter while freshman guard Morgan Amy rounds out the starting line up at 4.0 points per contest to go with a team-leading 66 assists, 62 rebounds, 17 steals, nine three-pointers and eight blocked shots.
Freshman guard Madison Amy is contributing 5.5 points per outing off of the bench to go with 56 rebounds, 36 assists, 24 three-pointers and 24 steals while freshman guard Jackie Kelly has added 56 points and 42 rebounds in her debut season. Junior forward Jordan Beneducci has contributed 36 points, 34 rebounds, 20 assists and nine steals this winter while freshman forward Emily Markowski has 40 rebounds, 33 points, 11 steals and nine assists in her debut campaign. Sophomore guard Alix Buskirk has added 29 points and 21 boards while senior guard Brooke Santy has 26 points, 18 rebounds and 12 assists this year.
Junior guard Sarah Donati has netted 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Hounds while freshman guard Meghan Ansel has five points and four boards. Sophomore guard Khamyia Spence and junior forward Raquel Lopez de Boer each had three points and four rebounds for Moravian while freshman forward Baylee Guedes has four boards and two points and freshman guard Ashley Robinson has added five rebounds and three assists.
