TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team led by eight points after the first quarter and by 20 points at halftime as the Greyhounds posted a 70-41 Landmark Conference victory at Goucher College Saturday afternoon.
The Hounds, who wore their pink jerseys for the first time on the road and are now 9-5 in pink, improve to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in Landmark Conference play with the win, and the Blue and Grey had four players score in double figures led by senior guard Maddie Capuano, who had a game-high 17 points to move into fourth in school history in scoring with 1,655 points. Capuano added three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while senior forward Nadine Ewald contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Freshman guard Madison Amy tossed in 12 points to go with four rebounds while senior guard Karlie Brogan added 10 points, four assists and three boards.
Freshman guard Morgan Amy had four points and a pair of assists while sophomore guard Khamyia Spence added three points. Sophomore guard Kayla Yoegel, freshman forward Baylee Guedes, senior guard Brooke Santy, freshman guard Jackie Kelly and sophomore guard Alix Buskirk all scored two points with Yoegel grabbing three rebounds and Guedes adding two boards. Freshman guard Ashley Robinson contributed three rebounds and two assists while junior forward Jordan Beneducci and freshman forward Emily Markowski both had two boards.
Goucher hit a free throw to start the scoring before a lay-up from Ewald put Moravian on the scoreboard. The Gophers retook the lead before a jumper by Ewald had the Hounds up 4-3 and in the lead for good. Capuano drained a three-pointer with just over two minutes left in the quarter to move past Lisa Adams '88 into fourth in scoring for the Greyhounds, and the Blue and Grey led 17-9 after the first 10 minutes of action.
Moravian started the second quarter with a 6-0 run on a lay-up by Brogan and two lay-ups from Ewald as the advantage moved into double figures for the rest of the afternoon. Ewald made it a 20-point lead, 39-19, with a lay-up with just 41 seconds left in the half, and the Hounds headed to the locker room with a 41-21 edge as Capuano beat the buzzer off of an offensive rebound by Ewald.
Brogan started the second half with a three-pointer, and back-to-back three-pointers from Madison Amy had Moravian leading 61-28 with 1:26 left in the third quarter, the largest lead of the contest. The Greyhounds were up 61-29 after 30 minutes and would use the deep bench throughout the game with all 17 players in uniform seeing at least four minutes of action and 12 playing more than 10 minutes.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to on Wednesday, February 19 in the Hounds' final road game of the year with a trip to Susquehanna University for a Landmark Conference contest tipping off at 7:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
