TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior guard Maddie Capuano has been named to the 2019-20 Landmark Women's Basketball All-Conference First Team for the third consecutive year while senior forward Nadine Ewald was selected to the All-Conference Second Team for the second straight winter.
The duo helped the Greyhounds to a 15-11 mark this season including the program's 19th consecutive postseason appearance with a trip to the Landmark Conference Semifinals.
Capuano, who was also the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in 2016-17, led the Hounds in scoring for the second straight year at 19.0 points per game to go with 96 rebounds, 57 three-pointers, 50 assists and 35 steals while shooting 80 percent (104-of-130) from the foul line. Capuano finished her career ranked third in program history with 1,722 points, and she set the school record with 223 career three-pointers when she tied her own school mark of eight three-pointers in a game in the Landmark Semifinals to end her career. Capuano also ranks fourth all-time in career scoring average at 16.4 points per game, sixth in field goals made with 542, fifth in three-point field goal percentage at 35.9 percent, third in free throws made with 415, tied for fourth in career free throw percentage at 83.2 percent and seventh in assists with 286 in 105 career games at Moravian.
"Maddie has had a tremendous career and this season was no exception," stated Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She has proven to be one of the best in the Landmark Conference for four years and one of the best Moravian women's basketball players. Maddie drew a lot of attention to her from opposing teams, yet she continued to produce big numbers every game. A gifted athlete and two-year captain, Maddie was a competitor and consistently played hard and at a high level every time she stepped on the court. This is a great honor to finish a great career for Maddie."
Ewald averaged a double-double for the second straight season with averages of 15.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest in 2019-20. She had 14 double-doubles during the season and 36 for her career. Ewald also had a team-high 38 blocked shots this winter to go with 63 assists and 34 steals while shooting 48.9 percent (155-of-317) from the floor. Ewald completed her career ranked third in school history with 911 rebounds, and she is 11th in scoring with 1,266 career points. She also ranks ninth in field goals made with 499, sixth in career field goal percentage at 46.6 percent, third in career rebounds per game with an average of 8.9 and seventh in blocked shots with 107 in 102 career contests.
"Nadine had a great year and the second team recognition is well deserved," Spirk explained. "She consistently dominated inside on both the offensive and defensive ends. She was often double teamed, yet still battled to average double figures in scoring and rebounding. Nadine sprinkled her name through the women's basketball record books this season. Nadine's growth as a player over the course of her four years was tremendous. A two-year captain, President of SAAC and a resident advisor, all exemplified her growth off the court as well."
