Capuano Selected to Academic All-District Team Selected by CoSIDA

Senior Maddie Capuano named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College senior guard Maddie Capuano has been named to the 2020 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for NCAA Division III schools in District IV.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® honors selected by CoSIDA, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania. Moravian has had 53 Greyhounds named Academic All-Americans® selected by CoSIDA.

By making the All-District First Team, Capuano is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on March 11. There are a total of three student-athletes from the Landmark Conference on Academic All-District Teams.

Capuano is majoring in health sciences with a focus on occupational therapy at Moravian, and she has a 3.42 GPA. Capuano is averaging 18.4 points per game through 24 contests and became the fifth player in school history to reach 1,600 career points, now fourth with 1,671 points. She has had nine games over 20 points this season including three of 28 or more points. Capuano is shooting 38.5 percent from the floor (139-of-361), 31.3 percent beyond the three-point line (45-of-144) while moving into second in school history with 211 career three-pointers and 101-of-127 at the foul line (79.5 percent). She has 44 assists and 33 steals while playing 30.6 minutes per game.

Capuano has seen action in 103 career games and ranks in the top 10 in program history with 280 assists and 412 made free throws. She was named to the 2019 D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, and Capuano is a two-time member of the Landmark All-Conference First Team in both 2018 and 2019.

"The Academic All-District team is a tremendous honor for Maddie," stated Moravian College Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk. "She recognizes her academic success is a direct reflection of her hard work mentality in the classroom. Maddie is an accomplished athlete, but knows that her academics come first. She exemplifies the true meaning of student athlete here at Moravian."

Off the field, Capuano is the two-time member of the Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll. Capuano, who is also a two-year captain for the Greyhounds, has also served on Moravian's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee during her career and has been active with the team's efforts with Cops 'n' Kids during her career, reading at local elementary schools.
