TOWSON, Md. --- The 2018-19 Moravian College men’s indoor track and field squad has been picked first overall in the Landmark Conference preseason poll as chosen by the Landmark coaches.

The Greyhounds return 27 student-athletes from last year’s Landmark Conference Championship team as well as adding 12 new competitors. The Hounds received a total of 60 points, which was 15 more than the next closest team in the poll which was Elizabethtown College and six first-place votes. Moravian has won nine straight Landmark Conference Indoor Championships and 10 of the first 11 Landmark Conference titles.

Eighth-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann has a veteran group of returners led by 10 returning All-Conference student-athletes led by senior John Spirk, who was the 2018 Landmark Conference Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Zion Howard, the 2018 Landmark Conference Male Indoor Rookie of the Year. Other returning All-Conference performers include seniors Scott Goodwin, Chris Antoine and Brian Stock, juniors Greg Jaindl, Ryan Harper and Justin Beasley-Turner and sophomores Shane Mastro and Peter Gingrich.

“It’s nice to be recognized, but it’s really about what we’ve done in the past, not what's in front of us,” Baumann explained. “We return some athletes with the potential for the NCAAs most notably Zion Howard and Greg Jaindl, but we also have some other athletes who have been on the cusp of that level who we feel can make it to Boston in March. We have strong depth across most events which should bode well for when we hit the championship meet in February provided we work during the off time in December, and we can keep everyone healthy.”

The Greyhounds will begin the season at Lehigh University Opener on Saturday, December 1.
