Jaindl Named Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Junior Greg Jaindl named as the Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior Greg Jaindl has been named the Landmark Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Jaindl competed in two meets in two days and had a first-place finish in both for the Greyhounds. On Friday, he ran the anchor leg of Moravian's distance medley relay team that won the race in the New York City Division III Invitational at the New York City Armory in a time of 10:22.80, the second fastest time in school history and sixth fastest in NCAA Division III this winter (now ninth fastest), earning Moravian 10 points that helped lead to a tie for 9th place of 27 teams scoring in the meet. Less than 24 hours later, Jaindl opened the Susquehanna University Challenge by winning the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:18.47, a personal best before finishing the meet with the anchor leg of Moravian's "B" 4X400-meter relay squad that was ninth in 3:39.11.

"Greg had a busy weekend starting off with anchoring our DMR at The Armory, bringing us on the cusp of our school record in the event thanks to his 4:16 split on the mile anchor," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "We discussed trying to get in a "easy" time in the 5k the next day at Susquehanna but he asked to push the pace if he felt OK. Through the first mile he was doing great running 72 second splits, but fatigued a little by the mid-way point. We didn't get home from the Armory until 12:30 a.m. and had to leave by 6:30 a.m. for Susquehanna, so that's understandable. With that said, he got a second wind the last 800 so he took off set a new PR of 15:18, even with leading literally the entire race by himself and having to run wide a lot to pass lapped traffic throughout the race. Two PRs on four hours of sleep while traveling over seven hours is a pretty solid weekend."

Moravian is slated to return to action on Friday, February 8 in the Fastrack Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York with the meet starting at 2:00 p.m.

"We're going to target a quick 3k at Ocean Breeze this weekend and we're hoping he can flirt with our school record in that," Baumann said. "He's in tremendous shape so he should be ready to put up a quick time."
