Spirk Wins 400m Dash at Muhlenberg Invitational

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team has one event winner and one relay champion in the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational on Saturday.

Senior John Spirk captured the 400-meter dash in 49.95 seconds, and he also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x100-meter relay with senior Brian Stock, sophomore Sean McFarland and freshman Taylor Porter McPherson to finish first in 43.60 seconds. Spirk was also second in the 200-meter dash in 22.82 seconds while Porter McPherson was fifth in 23.16 seconds and junior Evan Lutz took tenth in 23.59 seconds.

Porter McPherson was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds and Stock placed fifth in 11.57 seconds. Lutz took fourth in the 400-meter dash in 51.44 seconds while McFarland was seventh in 51.86 seconds. Senior Woodrow Battle was tenth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.99 seconds while senior Nicholas Cephas was tenth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.84.

Sophomore Peter Gingrich placed third in the 800-meer run in 1:57.60 while junior Gavin Kemery took ninth in the race in 2:02.05. Freshman Shane Houghton finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:15.14 while freshman Richard Glennon was sixth in 10:24.14 and freshman Michael Lerch took ninth in 10:57.69. Freshman Dominic DeRafelo placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:15.62 while Benjamin Smith finished fourth in 16:20.60. Gingrich, Kemery, senior Aaron Hofmann and freshman Brad Clemson took fourth in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:34.77.

Freshman Max Schuman was third in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters (20-3.75) while senior Da'Juon Hibbert was ninth with a distance of 5.79 meters (19-0). Senior Scott Goodwin was sixth in the pole vault at 4.10 meters (13-5.25) while Schuman took seventh at a height of 3.95 meters (12-11.5).

Junior Ryan Harper finished as the runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 13.36 meters (43-10) while senior Tyler Bergsma was eighth at 12.32 meters (40-5). Sophomore Shane Mastro took third in the discus with a toss of 42.21 meters (138-6) while sophomore Derek Scott was fourth at 42.18 meters (138-4) and senior Jon Anthony finished fifth with a toss of 40.05 meters (131-4).

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday and Saturday, April 12-13 when the squad hosts annual Coach P Invitational named for former Head Coach Doug Pollard at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field.
