TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad captured its fifth straight and 11th overall conference title by winning the 2019 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship at the meet hosted by Goucher College on Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5.

The Greyhounds posted a 32-point win over Elizabethtown College, 238 to 206. Moravian won five individual event titles over the two days as well.

"It was a really tight meet and going into today it was basically a coin flip with projected scores," commented Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "There were some unfortunate setbacks with other teams and as usual our roster really stepped up. John Spirk made a ton of sacrifices for the team. Justin Beasley Turner was diving at the line. Jon Anthony, Ryan Harper and Shane Mastro carried immense points for the team. Max Schuman and Richie Glennon picked up new events to pitch in. There are too many athletes who rose up to acknowledge them all but suffice it to say the entire roster put in an effort to be proud of."

Senior John Spirk paced the men's team by winning three individual titles. He captured the 110-meter high hurdles for the fourth straight year in 15.18 seconds, the 400-meter hurdles for the fourth consecutive spring in 56.17 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 50.51 seconds. Sophomore Shane Mastro won the shot put with a toss of 14.89 meters (48-10.25) while senior Jon Anthony posted a meet record distance of 45.58 meters (149-6) to win the discus on Saturday.

Freshman Taylor Porter McPherson was the runner-up in the 400-merer dash in 50.76 seconds while junior Evan Lutz took third in 50.83 seconds. Porter McPherson was also seventh in the 100-meter dash final in 11.72 seconds while sophomore Sean McFarland took fourth in the 200-meter dash final in 22.95 seconds and was followed by Spirk in sixth at 23.28 seconds, Porter McPherson in seventh at 23.36 seconds and Lutz in eighth with a time of 23.54 seconds. Junior Nicholas Cephas was third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.20 seconds while senior Woodrow Battle was seventh with a time of 17.04 seconds, and Cephas also placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.48 while freshman Richard Glennon was sixth in 1:02.07.

Junior Justin Beasley-Turner was the runner-up in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.48 while sophomore Peter Gingrich placed fifth in 1:56.45 and freshman Dominic DeRafelo was eighth in a time of 1:57.93. Junior Greg Jaindl took second in the 1,500-meter run in 3:59.24, the 5,000-meter run in 15:15.18 and the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:36.03. Beasley-Turner finished third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:03.30 while Gingrich took sixth in 4:06.71, DeRafelo placed seventh in 4:06.81 and senior Devon Harris finished eighth in 4:07.26. Junior Gavin Kemery was fourth in the 10,000-meter run in 33:28.52, and he finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:32.34. Freshman Shane Houghton took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:52.40 while Glennon was seventh in the race in 10:22.26.

Spirk ran the lead-off leg of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team with McFarland, Porter McPherson and senior Brian Stock as the quartet finished third in 43.87 seconds. Porter McPherson, Beasley-Turner, Lutz and Gingrich also competed the 4x400-meter relay and ran a time of 3:27.41 to place fourth in the final race of the meet.

Freshman Max Schuman was the runner-up in the pole vault at a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25), and he also placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.76 meters (41-10.5) and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.48 meters (21-3.25). Stock was fourth in the long jump at 6.61 meters (21-8.25).

Mastro took second to Anthony in the discus with a toss of 43.22 meters (141-9) while sophomore Derek Scott was fourth at 40.38 meters (132-5) and senior Tyler Bergsma took eighth at 36.88 meters (121-0). Junior Ryan Harper was the runner-up to Mastro in the shot put with a mark of 13.51 meters (44-4) while Bergsma was sixth at 12.86 meters (42.2.25) and Scott finished eighth at a distance of 12.19 meters (40-0). Anthony earned a runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.42 meters (145-9) while Harper was third at 43.13 meters (141-6), Mastro placed fifth at 42.46 meters (139-3) and senior Hunter Gibson finished seventh at 41.69 meters (136-9). Junior Nick Cregar was fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 46.42 meters (152-3) for the final scoring mark for the Hounds.

Moravian will return to action on Monday, May 13 at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Qualifier as the Greyhounds look to send student-athletes to the All-Atlantic Region meet on May 15-16 and the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships on May 23-25.
