Jon Anthony named Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior thrower Jon Anthony has been named the 2019 Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete for Men's Outdoor Track & Field.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators and sports information directors. Chosen at the conclusion of each sport season, the 10 spring honorees are being announced this week.

Anthony helped the track & field team sweep the Landmark Conference outdoor and indoor titles during his four years. This spring, he won the Landmark Conference championship in the discus with a meet record and PR toss of 45.58 meters (149-6), which is also the fourth-best throw in program history. Anthony also earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference Second Team at the outdoor championships with a runner-up finish and PR toss of 44.42 meters (145-9) in the hammer throw. Anthony earned his first Landmark Conference title indoors back in February when he captured the weight throw with a PR distance of 15.58 meters (51-1.5), which is the fifth-best distance in school history. During his career, Anthony also had PR distances in the shot put of 13.14 meters (43.15) indoors and 12.72 meters (41-8.75) outdoors, both marks coming during the 2018-19 season,

Off the track, Anthony had a 3.63 GPA while majoring in health sciences with a minor in public health. He is a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll, and he made the Landmark Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll three times as well. Anthony was named to Moravian's Dean's List six times, and he was part of the Greyhounds' Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society in both 2018 and 2019. Anthony was a member of Moravian's Occupational Therapy Club, Bethlehem Salvation Army and Hounds 4 Kids – Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund.

"Jonathan is a very worthy recipient. He's consistently been on our Dean's Lists and will be starting up school again in a few weeks pursuing a Masters in Occupational Therapy here at Moravian," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "He's been a great member of our team too, very team-first oriented and has worked hard to encourage team cohesiveness. He's made huge strides as an athlete from almost being too nervous to compete as a freshman in the discus to setting the Landmark Meet Record as a senior. He's well rounded as a student-athlete, a great person, and ultimately a very worthy representative for the conference, our program, and Moravian."

Anthony is Moravian's 31st Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete since the conference began in 2007-08, and he is the fourth men's outdoor track & field student-athlete to be honored and eighth overall male track & field honoree including the indoor season.
