ITHACA, N.Y. --- Moravian College sophomore Shane Mastro used his final throw of the meet to finish eighth in the shot put and earn a point for the Greyhounds on the opening day of the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ithaca College Friday.

Mastro had a toss of 14.51 meters (47-7.25) on his sixth toss of the meet among the 10 finalists to secure eighth place and on point for the Hounds, who are tied for 22nd of 24 teams scoring on the first day of the meet. Mastro was the third thrower in the first flight and made the finals with a toss of 14.18 meters (46-6.25) in his third and final attempt in the preliminaries. That toss would have been enough to keep Mastro in eighth place before this final throw of the meet.

Moravian had one other competitor on the first day of the meet with senior John Spirk winning his heat of the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries in 8.38 seconds to advance to the finals on Saturday morning. Spirk's time was the fourth fastest overall in the three prelim races.

The Greyhounds are set to have competitors from both the men's and women's teams compete on the second day of the 2019 All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track & Field Championships with action slated to start at 10:00 a.m.
