Hounds Win Three Events in Greyhound Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team won three events while hosting the annual Greyhound Invitational at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field Saturday.

The Greyhounds first place winners included junior Justin Beasley-Turner winning the 800-meter run in a time of 1:5.47, senior John Spirk capturing the 400-meter hurdles in a personal best time of 54.17 seconds and Shane Mastro winning the discus with a toss of 44.18 meters (144-11). Spirk was also sixth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.96 seconds after placing second in the preliminaries in a time of 14.91 seconds.

Sophomore Sean McFarland was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 22.43 seconds, and both Spirk and McFarland ran legs of the 4x100-meter relay with senior Brian Stock and freshman Taylor Porter McPherson that took third in a time of 43.72 seconds. Senior Nicholas Cephas was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.70.

Senior Benjamin Smith was fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:01.32 while freshman Dominic DeRafelo was sixth in 16:12.97. Freshman Shane Houghton placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:08.45 while freshman Richard Glennon finished eighth in 10:21.65. DeRafelo also ran the 4x400-meter relay with senior Aaron Hofmann, sophomore Peter Gingrich and freshman Brad Clemson that finished eighth in 3:35.61.

In the field events, Mastro was the runner-up in the shot put with a PR of 14.67 meters (48-1.75) while junior Ryan Harper took eighth at 13.70 meters (44-11.5). Harper also had a PR mark of 48.40 meters (158-9) to finish third in the hammer throw while senior Jon Anthony took eighth with a PR distance 44.09 meters (144-8) and Mastro was ninth with another PR of 40.85 meters (134-0). Anthony took fifth in the discus with a toss of 43.02 meters (141-1) while sophomore Derek Scott was eighth at 40.91 meters (134-2).

Freshman Max Schuman was tied for sixth in the pole vault at 3.96 meters (12-11.75) while sophomore John Stires was tenth at 3.66 meters (12-0).

The Greyhoudns are scheduled to participate in two events this week with a trip to the Penn Relays and the squad competing in the Lehigh University Games on Saturday, April 27 as the team's final meet before the 2019 Landmark Conference Championships.
