Jaindl Breaks School Record in Steeplechase at Swarthmore Last Chance Qualifier

SWARTHMORE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team recorded four PRs during the Swarthmore College Last Chance Qualifier Monday afternoon and evening led by junior Greg Jaindl setting school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Jaindl ran a time of 9:03.89, taking nearly 10 seconds off of the school record he set at the same meet a year ago. Jaindl, who was the runner-up in the race, moved up to seventh in the nation in the event and all but assured himself of running in the 2019 NCAA Division III National Championships from May 23-24 in Cleveland, Ohio. Freshman Richard Glennon also had a PR in the steeplechase with a time of 10:02.42.

Senior John Spirk had a PR of 53.84 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to move into 23rd in the nation on the Track & Field Results Reporting System with the top 20 males after meets complete on Thursday heading to the National Championships. Sophomore Sean McFarland was 12th in the 400-meter dash in 51.40 seconds and 14th in the 200-meter dash in 23.05 seconds while freshman Taylor Porter McPherson finished 11th in the 400-meter dash in 51.39 seconds and junior Evan Lutz took 13th in 51.59 seconds.

Sophomore Derek Scott recorded a PR in the discus with a third place toss of 43.61 meters (143-1) while sophomore Shane Mastro was fourth at 42.97 meters (140-10) and senior Jon Anthony finished ninth at 40.86 meters (134-0). Junior Ryan Harper placed sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.87 meters (143-11), and he also finished eighth in the shot put at 13.22 meters (43-4.5) while Mastro took sixth in shot put at 14.14 meters (46-4.75). Senior Brian Stock was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.11 meters (20-0.5) while freshman Max Schuman tied for 12th in the pole vault at 3.95 meters (12-11.75).

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday and Thursday, May 15-16 at the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Championships being hosted by SUNY Cortland.
