WEST CHESTER, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field teams opened its 2019 outdoor season at the non-scoring West Chester University Golden Ram Invitational Saturday with four event wins.
Senior John Spirk won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.51 seconds, and he ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-relay that won in 3:31.30 with junior Evan Lutz, sophomore Sean McFarland and freshman Taylor Porter McPherson. Junior Greg Jaindl captured the 800-meter run in a time of 1:56.40 while sophomore Shane Mastro won the shot put with a toss of 14.45 meters (47-5).
Spirk also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 51.16 seconds while Porter McPherson finished third in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.40 with senior Brian Stock in seventh in 23.93 seconds and Lutz in ninth at 24.09 seconds. Stock was also sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.67 seconds while senior Woodrow Battle finished fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.01 seconds.
Junior Justin Beasley-Turner placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 51.97 seconds while Lutz was seventh at 52.70 seconds, sophomore Peter Gingrich finished eighth in 52.81 seconds and McFarland placed tenth in a time of 53.31 seconds. Freshman Shane Houghton finished third in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:15.50 while freshman Dominic DeRafelo placed fifth in the 800-meter run at 2:03.52 with senior Aaron Hofmann in sixth in 2:03.74 and junior Gavin Kemery in ninth at 2:05.53.
Freshman Max Schuman was the runner-up in the pole vault at a height of 3.55 meters (11-7.75) while sophomore John Stires was tied for third at 3.25 meters (10-8). Stock placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.88 meters (19-3.25) while Schuman was eighth at 5.77 meters (18-11.25) and senior Da'Juon Hibbert placed ninth at 5.56 meters (18-3).
Junior Ryan Harper finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 46.52 meters (152-7) while senior Hunter Gibson took fifth at 40.47 meters (132-9) and freshman Cole Dobyns finished tenth at 28.93 meters (94-11). Senior Jon Anthony placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 40.13 meters (131-8) while senior Tyler Bergsma took eighth at 34.27 meters (112-5) and junior Nick Cregar was ninth at 32.74 meters (107-5). Bergsma also finished seventh in the shot put at 12.02 meters (39-5.25).
The Hounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, March 30 in the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet.
