Spirk & Howard Win Track Events at Lehigh University Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field squad began its 2018-19 season at the non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse.

The Greyhounds won three events with sophomore Zion Howard capturing the 60-meter dash in 7.07 seconds and winning the 200-meter dash in 22.35 seconds. Senior John Spirk took first place in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.33 seconds.

Freshman Taylor Porter McPherson placed third in the 200-meter dash in 23.90 seconds while senior Brian Stock was seventh in 24.68 seconds, senior Chris Antoine took eighth in 25.03 seconds and senior Scott Goodwin finished tenth in 25.23 seconds. Porter was also third in the 60-meter dash in 7.39 seconds while junior Mike Rosario took fourth in 7.44 seconds, Stock placed fifth in 7.52 seconds, Antoine finished sixth in 7.57 seconds and senior Da'Juon Hibbert was seventh in 7.73 seconds.

Sophomore Sean McFarland placed third in the 400-meter dash in 52.80 seconds while junior Evan Lutz took fourth in 54.28 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Spirk, Howard, Porter and McFarland was second in a time of 3:29.93. Senior Woodrow Battle finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.78 seconds.

Goodwin was third in the pole vault at a height of 4.25 meters (13-11.25) while freshman Max Schuman was fifth at 3.80 meters (12-5.5). Stock was the runner-up in the long jump at 6.25 meters (20-6.25) while Hibbert finished eighth at 5.45 meters (17-10.75).

In the throwing events, junior Ryan Harper was the runner-up in the shot put at 13.52 meters (44-4.25) while senior Jon Anthony took fourth at 12.49 meters (40-11.75). Senior Tyler Bergsma was fifth with a toss of 12.33 meters (40-5.5) while sophomore Derek Scott was seventh at 10.82 meters (35-6) and senior Hunter Gibson placed eighth at 10.64 meters (34-11). Harper also finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.28 meters (50-1.75) while Anthony placed fifth at 15.15 meters (49-8.5), Gibson was sixth at 13.66 meters (44-9.75), Bergsma finished seventh with a toss of 13.34 meters (43-9.25) and Scott was eighth at 12.47 meters (40-11).

Moravian will be back at Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 8 for the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals meet.
