Greyhounds Capture Four Event Titles in Lafayette College 7-Way Meet

EASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field squad placed third of eight teams Lafayette College 7-Way Meet on Saturday with four Greyhounds winning events.

The Hounds event winneres were junior Justin Beasley-Turner capturing the 800-meter run in 1:54.80, junior Greg Jaindl winning the 1,500-meter run on 3:59.98, senior John Spirk taking the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.893 seconds and sophomore Shane Mastro capturing the discus with a toss of 45.22 meters (148-4), the seventh best throw in school history.

Spirk was also the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.73 seconds while senior Brian Stock was sixth in the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds. Freshman Taylor Porter McPherson placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 51.73 seconds, and he was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 23.28 seconds. Junior Evan Lutz took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 52.27 seconds while sophomore Sean McFarland was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 23.79 seconds.

Junior Gavin Kemery placed third in the 5,000-meter run in 16:26.92 while senior Devon Harris was seventh in 17:10.31 and junior Alex Tursi was tenth un 18;06.93. Sophomore Peter Gingrich finished seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:00.69 while freshman Dominic DeRafelo was seventh in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:11.59. Freshman Richard Glennon placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:45.98 while freshman Michael Lerch was sixth in 10:57.82 and sophomore Billy Milburn was ninth in 11:39.61. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Beasley-Turner, Glennon, DeRafelo and freshman Brad Clemson finished fifth in a time of 3:38.44 while the group of Gingrich, Jaindl, senior Aaron Hofmann and senior Benjamin Smith was seventh in 3:38.59.

Mastro also finished third in the shot put with a toss of 14.47 meters (47-5.75), and he was followed by junior Ryan Harper in fourth at 13.77 meters (45-2.25) and senior Tyler Bergsma in eighth at 11.85 meters (38-10.5). Senior Jon Anthony finished seventh in the discus with a distance of 42.18 meters (138-5) while sophomore Derek Scott took eighth at 39.57 meters (129-10). Harper was also fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 48.36 meters (158-8), the sixth best in school history, while Anthony was eighth in the event at 41.64 meters (136-7) and Bergsma took ninth at 40.59 meters (133-2).

Stock took sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.00 meters (19-8.25) while freshman Max Schuman was eighth at 5.90 meters (19-4.25 and Schuman was also tied for eighth in the pole vault at 3.80 meters (12-5.5).

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, April 6 when the team participates in the Muhlenberg College Invitational in Allentown.
