Greyhounds Begin 2015-16 Indoor Campaign with Strong Showing at Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College  women's  track & field team began its 2015-16 indoor seasons at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals on Friday and Saturday in Rauch Fieldhouse.

In Friday's action for the women, sophomore Melissa Cheong placed fifth in the women's indoor pentathlon as she scored 2,787 points in the five-event competition. Cheong picked up 777 points for a time of 9.66 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, and she scored another 747 points for an ECAC qualifying height of 1.61 meters (5-3.25) in the high jump. Cheong received 417 points in the shot put with a toss of 8.27 meters (27-1.75), and she finished the competition with 614 points for a long jump of 5.20 meters (17-0.75) and 232 points for a time of 3:15.87 in the 800-meter run.

Junior Rebecca Flitcroft was eighth in the indoor pentathlon with 2,450 points including 758 points in the opening 60-meter hurdles for a time of 9.76 seconds. Flitcroft had a high jump of 1.20 meters (3-11.25) for 312 points, a shot put of 9.09 meters (29-10) for 470 points, a long jump of 4.09 meters (13-5) for 329 points and an 800-meter run time of 2:39.31 for 581 points. Sophomore Beth Ann Davies was eighth in the pole vault at 2.85 meters (9-4.25) to round out the Moravian competitors on Friday.

Sophomore Ciara Stewart had the women's team's top finish on Saturday as she placed fifth in the shot put with an ECAC qualifying mark of 11.80 meters (38-8.75), and Stewart also placed 15th in the 20-pount weight throw with a toss of 10.90 meters (35-9.25). Senior Abbey Clark was 12th in the weight throw at 12.14 meters (39-10) and 14th in the shot put with a toss of 10.69 meters (35-1) while sophomore Maggie Heft took 11th in the weight throw at 12.58 meters (41-3.25).

Sophomore Casie Cronk was 11th in the high jump at a height of 1.50 meter meters (4-11) while junior Kiara Bright placed 13th in the triple jump at 10.10 meters (33-1.75). Junior Lauren Suelke was 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 9.84 meters (32-3.5) while sophomore Carly Thorpe finished 15th in the event at 9.75 meters (31-9.25).

On the track for the women, senior Meghan Newman had the top finish as she placed 14th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.85 seconds.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, December 11 in the Wagner College Seahawk Invitational that will be competed at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island N.Y.
