Women's Outdoor Track and Field Takes First in Preseason Coaches Poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track and field team looks to begin its outdoor season in the pursuit of another Landmark Conference title. The Hounds were projected to finish first in the Landmark Conference coaches preseason poll with Susquehanna University a close second.

Last spring senior Corinne Glass led the women's team, which had eight student-athletes garner All-Conference nods, as she earned Landmark Track Athlete of the Year honors. Glass was an All-Conference First Team selection by winning the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes with meet and school records, and she made the Second Team in the 100-meter dash.

Also returning for the Hounds are All-Conference athletes junior Meg Brockett, who took home Second Team honors in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter run, sophomore Beth Ann Davies, who made Second Team for her finish in the pole vault and senior Meghan Newman, who was runner-up in the 100 meter hurdles.

"As with the men, it's nice to be picked first, but they don't award championships for projections and opinions," remarked Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We're excited about some of our young javelin and discus throwers who will have the opportunity to excel outdoors. As with the men, we return an NCAA qualifier from that group and want to continue that success. We're working a lot with our long hurdlers and steeplechasers now and I think they'll be ready to do well once we hit the 400 meter oval. Overall I feel like we're a fairly well-rounded team from the sprints to the jumps to the distances that hopefully can have a good outdoor season, not only at Landmarks, but in our post-season meets later in May as well."

The Blue and Grey will compete in their first outdoor track meet on Friday and Saturday, March 25 and 26 at the Lafayette College 7-Way Invitational.
