Krischer & Stewart Honored as Landmark Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College freshman sprinter Maike Krischer and sophomore thrower Ciara Stewart have been honored as the Landmark Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances in the Seahawk Shootout hosted by Wagner College last Friday.

Krischer finished 12th in the 400-meter dash at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island with a time of 1:03.43, and she was 14th in the 200-meter dash in 27.79 seconds as she won her heat.

"Maike came to us as a versatile athlete who has dabbled in a number of events," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "As she started getting into our sprinting workouts, our coaches saw a lot of potential in her and Friday started to illustrate some of that. She's already on the cusp of her PRs prior to arriving here, so we know she's in store for some big times and being a really good contributor to our program."

In the shot put at the Seahawk Shootout, Stewart posted an ECAC qualifying distance of 11.87 meters (38-11.5) to finish third, and she took eighth in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 12.22 meters (40-1.25).

"There are really no surprises that Ciara's throwing well right now," Baumann said. "She's worked hard to this point and returns as a 12-meter thrower in the shot. She's already about a month ahead of schedule from this time last year so we expect some big things this season. She also set a nice PR in the weight and will be a cornerstone for our throws program not only this year but going forward."

The Greyhounds are not scheduled to return to action until the squad heads to the Ursinus College Invitational on Saturday, January 23, 2016.
