Brockett Named Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior distance runner Meg Brockett has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her performance this past weekend.

Brockett posted a career-best time and hit the ECAC qualifying mark with a time of 17:42.72 in the 5,000-meter run at the Great Dane Classic hosted by the University of Albany at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, New York Saturday. Brockett finished in fifth place in the race while recording the fourth fastest time in Moravian history, and a time that currently has her ranked fifth in the nation for NCAA Division III in the event.

"We're extremely happy with where Meg started," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "I generally tell athletes that if they can match the previous outdoor season's PR by the middle or end of the current indoor season, they're where they should be. She did that and more by setting a 10-second lifetime PR in her first race of the season. Meg's race was incredibly even, and she displayed great racing tactics and awareness. Both of us couldn't have been happier with where she started the season, and it added some legitimacy to some big goals that she has for this season. Moravian's all-time lists in the distances are decorated with All-Americans and NCAA qualifiers, so to be No. 4 on the 5k list as only a junior is quite an accomplishment."

Moravian will return to action on Saturday, January 23 with the whole team competing at the Ursinus College Invitational in Collegeville.
