Hounds End Semester at Seahawk Shootout

Staten Island, N.Y. --- The Moravian College women's track and field team competed fiercely in the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout this afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Leading the way for the Hounds in the field events was sophomore Ciara Stewart, who competed in both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw. In the shot put, Stewart threw an ECAC qualifying 11.87 meters (38-11.5) to finish her third overall in the event while in the weight throw she was able to toss a competitive 12.22 meters (40-1.25). Also placing well in the throws for the Greyhounds were sophomore Maggie Heft, who tossed a 13.22 meter (43-4.5) weight throw to place her third in the event and she threw a 9.88 (32.5) in the shot put both of which are career bests, while senior Abbey Clark, who threw 12.41 (40-8.75) in the weight throw and 11.24 (36-10.5) in the shot put for fifth place.

In the rest of the field events the Blue and Grey had a strong showing. Both sophomores Melissa Cheong and Casie Cronk finished the high jump with marks of 1.50 meters (4-11), tying them for third overall. Cheong also placed third in the long jump leaping to a 5.06-meter mark (16-7.25). Finishing just behind Cheong in the long jump was junior Lauren Sulke, who placed fifth and jumped 4.83 meters (15-10.25). In the triple jump junior Kiara Bright led the Moravian competitors with a leap of 10.39 meters (34-1.25) while freshman Sarah DeFranco jumped out a 9.76-meter mark (32-0.25).

On the track, freshman hurdlers Amari Schooler and Anna Osman both competed in the finals for the event. Schooler raced to a finals time of 10.15 while running a 10.06 time in the preliminary race, which is a personal best. Osman finished just behind Schooler in the finals with a time of 10.24 while running a career mark of 10.16 in the preliminary race.

The Hounds will have a long break before they compete at the Ursinus College Invitational on Saturday, January 23.
