Women Lead Landmark Championships after 1st Day with Four Event Winners

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field squad leads Elizabethtown College by 17 points, 81-64, after the first day of action at the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships being hosted by Juniata College.

The Hounds had four champions on the first day of action with junior Meg Brockett  opening the day with a win in the 10,000-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 38:45.21. Sophomore Beth Ann Davies won the pole vault at 3.19 meters (10-5.5) while sophomore Melissa Cheong captured the long jump with a leap of 4.96 meters (16-3.25). Sophomore Trista Cunningham finished first in the discus with a toss of 35.25 meters (115-8).

Graduate student Chelsea Swick was the runner-up in the pole vault at 3.04 meters (9-11.75) while junior Jackie Finnegan was the runner-up in the discus at 35.19 meters (115-5) and the hammer throw with a mark of 42.73 meters (140-2). Senior Christelle Reglas was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.77 meters (15-7.75).

Sophomore Maggie Heft finished sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.52 meters (123-1) while senior Abbey Clark placed eighth at 36.53 meters (119-10). Sophomore Ciara Stewart took seventh in the discus with a toss of 30.97 meters (101-7) while freshman Adriana Facchiano was eighth in 30.52 meters (100-1).

Junior Sarah Hughes picked up Moravian's only other points on the track Saturday with a fourth place finish in the 1,500 meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:45.20.

Moravian did well in the preliminary events on Saturday with senior Corinne Glass registering the top qualifying time in the three sprint events. Glass had the best time in the 100-meter dash by a thousandth of a second with a time of 12.455, and she set a meet record in the 200-meter dash at 24.90 seconds. Glass also led the 400-meter dash qualifying with a time of 57.72 seconds.

Junior Lauren White ran a time of 13.06 second to qualify for the 100-meter dash finals and she and Glass will be joined by freshman Abigail Strouse at 13.09 seconds and freshman Amari Schooler in 13.12 seconds. Moravian also had three additional qualifiers in the 400-meter dash with freshman Tamara Suchan running at time of 1:01.56, freshman Maike Krischer in 1:01.64 and freshman Monica Richardson at 1:02.40.

Cheong led five Greyhounds that qualified for the 100-meter hurdle finals with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.58 seconds. Schooler in 15.87 seconds, senior Meghan Newman at 16.10 seconds, freshman Anna Osman in 16.40 seconds and freshman Sarah DeFranco in 17.55 seconds all made Sunday's final.

The second day of competiton is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 8 at Juniata.
