Field Hockey Opens the Season versus DeSales This Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College field hockey team travels to DeSales University on Saturday, September 1st for its opening game of the 2012 campaign. The Greyhounds are 5-3 all-time against the Bulldogs.

Tenth-year head coach Amy Endler expects the Greyhounds to challenge for a postseason berth this year. She returns 14 letterwinners while bringing in seven newcomers for this season.

Moravian will put two Landmark All-Conference Second Team members on the field in senior forward Briana Van Buskirk (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown). Van Buskirk led the Hounds with 22 points and nine goals to go with her four assists while Duffin was second on the squad with 15 points off of six goals and three assists.

Senior co-captain forward Tori Poliskiewicz (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) was the field general, leading Moravian with seven assists to go with four goals. Classmate co-captain defender Stephanie Pezzello (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney) started every game last fall while collecting two defensive saves. She was also named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team in 2010.

Junior goalkeeper Andrea Eck (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) started all 17 games for the Hounds while collecting nine wins and four shutouts. She had a 1.57 goals against average while making 89 saves, which is good for a .774 save percentage.

Junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann (Lafayette, N.J./Newton) was also a key contributor in 2011 after scoring six goals (four game-winners) to go with her one assist while sophomore forward Taylor Holly (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) put up three goals and three assists.

Moravian will make its home debut on Wednesday, September 5th as they host Keystone College. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Betty Prince Field.
