Moravian Falls Short at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J. –The Moravian College field hockey team fell to FDU-Florham, 1-0, Tuesday night. Junior midfielder Lanie Andrews netted the lone goal for the Devils in the win.

Both teams would battle to a tie in the first half of the contest. Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb would make seven saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Junior midfielder Keriann Badessa would get an early opportunity to push the Hounds ahead, but junior goalie Tess Loughran made the save in the fifth minute. Badessa almost put Moravian up 1-0 going into the locker room with two shots on goal in the final seconds of the half, but a defensive save and a goalie save would keep the contest at zero.

The Greyhounds would have another opportunity to get the go ahead goal in the 42nd minute, but senior defender Marybeth Weimer would get a defensive save on freshman forward Kelly O'Donnell's shot. Junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann then got a penalty stroke in the 47th minute, but sent it just wide. Gottlieb came up big in the 50th minute after making three saves in six seconds to keep the match knotted at zero. The Devils would break the tie in the 57th minute with a goal from Andrews with senior midfielder Kelsey Kistle assisting on the play. Moravian would battle the rest of the way, but fall 1-0.

Gottlieb made 12 saves in the loss while Loughran recorded a shutout, and tallied three saves.

Moravian had seven shots and four penalty corners while FDU-Florham had 15 shots and nine penalty corners.

The Greyhounds return to action on Thursday, September 13th when they travel to Arcadia University. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
