Field Hockey Falls to #7 Catholic, 4-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Moravian College field hockey team fell to nationally-ranked No. 7 The Catholic University of America, 4-2, in Saturday afternoon's Landmark Conference contest.

The Greyhounds would get on the board first versus the Cardinals with a goal from freshman forward Kelly O'Donnell. Senior forward Tori Poliskiewicz (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) had the set up pass on the goal for the assist. Catholic would collect two goals at the end of the first half from freshmen defender Tarah Portland and forward Kiera McGroven to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room.

Sophomore forward Rebecca Lukaszczyk pushed the Cardinals lead to 3-1 with a goal one minute into the second half. Classmate midfielder Kim Hermann put Catholic up 4-1 in the 51st minute. Sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin added a goal for the Hounds in the 62nd minute to make the score 4-2, but it would be too little too late for Moravian.

Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb tallied 26 saves in 70 minutes of action for Moravian while her counterpart junior Megan Comunale made four saves, and allowed one goal in 62 minutes. Freshman goalie Emma Warden played the final eight minutes for the Cardinals and allowed one goal.

Senior defender Stephanie Pezzello made two defensive saves in the match for Moravian.

The Greyhounds to play on Thursday, September 27th as they host Marywood University. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Betty Prince Field.
