Field Hockey Falls to Wesley in Overtime

DOVER, Del. – The Moravian College field hockey team fell to Wesley College, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Senior forward Briana Van Buskirk scored with six seconds remaining in regulation for the Greyhounds to force overtime.

The first half was tightly contested with the Wolverines holding a slight edge in shots at 11-9 and both teams taking three penalty corners. Sophomore forward Gracie Daniels took a pass from junior midfielder Madison Leone to put Wesley on the scoreboard first, 29 minutes into the match.

Moravian pressured more in the second half by holding a 10-7 shot advantage and a 6-3 penalty corner edge. The pressure paid off in the late going when Van Buskirk sent the loose ball in the back of the cage with just six seconds remaining in regulation to tie the contest at one.

It wouldn't take long for the Wolverines to win it in overtime, scoring 42 seconds in with a goal from senior forward Danielle Tearl.

Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb took the loss while making nine saves. Classmate defender Stephanie Pezzello came up with two defensive saves while sophomore midfielder Bryn Tafuri added one defensive save for Moravian. Senior goalie Elizabeth Groom made eight saves to earn the win for Wesley.

Both teams finished with 19 shots while the Greyhounds held a 9-6 penalty corner advantage.

Moravian returns to action on Thursday, October 25th as they travel to Cedar Crest College. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
