Field Hockey Falls to Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Muhlenberg College field hockey team posted a non-conference 5-0 win over Moravian College Wednesday evening at Scotty Wood Stadium.

The Mules would get the first shot of the match just over four minutes into the contest with junior midfielder/defender Erin Gilbert making a defensive save for the Greyhounds.  Moravian would get a shot in the 19th minute when senior forward Tori Poliskiewicz had a shot blocked on a penalty corner.

Muhlenberg would take a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when sophomore forward Meghan Gill scored off of a pass from sophomore forward Christine Germaske on the Mules fourth shot on goal in the opening half.  The Mules needed just two minutes to double its lead when sophomore forward/midfielder Kayleigh Thies blasted in a shot from the wing on a penalty corner off of an assist from sophomore forward Samantha SwireGermaske pushed the lead to 3-0 just over a minute before the intermission on a goal when she redirected a shot by Thies from the top of the circle.

The Mules extended their lead to 4-0 just over three minutes into the second half when junior forward Dayna Hovern put in a rebound of a saved shot.  Shortly after the goal, the Greyhounds would get three penalty corners and a pair of shots in just over a minute.  Thies added her second goal of the match in the 64th minute for Muhlenberg.  Moravian would also have a chance to score in the final minute with two more penalty corners and three shots.

Muhlenberg finished the match with a 13-7 advantage in shots while the Greyhounds had an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.  Moravian senior goalie Catherine Gottlieb made five saves in 53 minutes of action while junior keeper Andrea Eck played the final 17 minutes.  The Mules used three goals in the match with Sierra Lenker and Colleen O'Donnell each making one save while splitting time in the second half after Kristin Dornenburg played the first half.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, October 13th when the squad returns to Betty Prince Field to host Neumann University in a non-conference match beginning at 12:00 p.m.
