Field Hockey Shuts Out Ramapo, 2-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Senior goalie Catherine Gottlieb made four saves to post her second shutout of the season to lead the Moravian College field hockey team to a 2-0 non-conference win over Ramapo College of New Jersey at Betty Prince Field.

Moravian is now 6-7 overall and the season and 6-1 in home contests that have been played between Betty Prince Field, Rocco Calvo Field and Lehigh University this fall.

The Greyhounds had the first opportunity to score just over five minutes into the match when a shot from sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin hit the post and freshman midfielder/defender Rebecca Hamel was stopped on a penalty stroke.  Moravian would take a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when freshman forward Kelly O'Donnell scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season when she passed a pass from sophomore forward Cayley Wise  through the goalie's pads.

The score would remain 1-0 through the remainder of the first half with the Greyhounds holding a 14-1 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in penalty corners at the end of the first 35 minutes of action.

Moravian extended its lead to 2-0 in the 48th minute when Duffin found a loose ball after a penalty corner and scored on a long shot for her sixth goal of the year. 

The Greyhounds finished the game with an 18-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots.  Gottlieb finished the match with four saves while Road Runners' senior goalie Rebecca Elliott had 12 saves.

The Greyhounds will close out their 2012 home season on Saturday, October 20th in a Landmark Conference match versus Goucher College that will be played on the turf at Rocco Calvo Field beginning at 1:00 p.m.
