Field Hockey Shuts Out Marywood 4-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College field hockey team defeated Marywood University, 4-0, Thursday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb posted her first shutout of the season after making nine saves in the contest.

Moravian would strike in the early minutes with a goal from sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin off a penalty corner from junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann. The Greyhounds kept the pressure on for the whole first half, which led to their second goal with just two minutes remaining in the first half. Sophomore forward Cayley Wise deflected a pass from Duffin and junior midfielder Keriann Badessa to put the Hounds up 2-0 going into halftime.

Moravian held a 13-1 shot advantage and an 8-2 penalty corner edge over the Pacers in the first half.

Senior forward Briana Van Buskirk got the Greyhounds off to a quick second half start with a goal just four minutes in to put Moravian up 3-0. Badessa added her second goal of the season in the 49th minute to put the Hounds up 4-0. Moravian would go onto win by that score.

Moravian outshot Marywood, 23-11, and held the edge in penalty corners, 13-9.

The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 29th as they host Landmark Conference opponent Drew University. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field.
