Field Hockey Falls to Susquehanna, 2-0

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Moravian College field hockey team fell to Landmark Conference rival Susquehanna University, 2-0, Saturday afternoon.

Both teams battled in the first half while the Crusaders held a 6-5 shot advantage and a 4-2 edge in penalty corners. Susquehanna struck first in the 29th minute when junior forward Erica Reichart shot from the point, and senior forward Nicole Solino tapped it in for the 1-0 advantage. Senior forward Tori Poliskiewicz had a chance to tie the contest in the 34th minute, but Crusaders goalie Margaret Ruth made the save.

Susquehanna added a goal in the 59th minute when sophomore forward Brodie Ercole dribbled down the sideline, and fried into the far post to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead. Moravian had a chance to get on the board in the final minutes when junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann took two penalty corners, and classmate midfielder Keriann Badessa had two shots on goal, but both were saved.

Senior goalie Catherine Gottlieb tallied seven saves in the loss, and senior defender Stephanie Pezzello added a defensive save for the Greyhounds to finish her career with school records of 13 defensive saves this season and 27 in her career. Ruth made seven saves in the shutout for the Crusaders.

This contest wraps up the 2012 Moravian College field hockey season.
