Field Hockey Falls to Drew, 3-2, in Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College field hockey team fell to Landmark Conference foe Drew University, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds would have a chance to take the lead early when junior midfielder Keriann Badessa fired a shot through two defenders, but junior goalie CC Carlini made the save for the Rangers. The two teams would battle to a scoreless tie until the final minute of the half, when junior forward Brooke Gagliano of Drew put on in the back of the cage to go up 1-0.

Moravian held the shot advantage, 5-3, and penalty corner edge 4-2 in the first half.

The Hounds wouldn't waste much time in the second half, by tying the match up at one just five minutes in. Senior forward Briana Van Buskirk brought the ball into the circle then sent a pass to classmate forward Tori Poliskiewicz, who put it in the back of the cage.

Moravian would come up with a defensive stand, when they didn't allow a goal after five penalty corners that led to four shots over the span of six minutes. Gagliano would put the Rangers back on top with her second goal of the contest in the 58th minute. Freshman forward Kelly O'Donnell answered back with a goal of her own three minutes later. Drew would have a chance to win in the 65th minutes when senior forward Sarah Charles took a shot from five yards, but junior midfielder Erin Gilbert made the defensive save to keep the score at 2-2.

The Rangers would only need three minutes of overtime before ending the contest with a goal from junior midfielder Danielle Waleko.

Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb tallied six saves in the loss while her counterpart Carlini made six saves.

Drew held the shot advantage, 15-13, and the edge in corners at 10-8.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, October 3rd as they travel to Landmark Conference rival The University of Scranton. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
