BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College field hockey team defeated Immacualata University, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Ulrich Field on Lehigh University's campus. The Greyhounds were led by senior forward Tori Poliskiewicz, who tallied two goals and one assist.
Moravian came out of the gates firing with two goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Senior forward Briana Van Buskirk netted the first goal off a penalty corner from junior midfielder Chelsea Grotyohann. Freshman forward Kelly O'Donnell put the Hounds up 2-0 after putting the ball in the back of the net. Assisting on the play was Poliskiewicz and Van Buskirk.
O'Donnell would get her second goal of the game, and third of the season, in the 20th minute of the contest after a cross pass from Van Buskirk. A penalty corner in the 35th minute led to scramble in front of the net for Moravian where sophomore midfielder Emily Marley would find the ball and put it in the back of the cage for a 4-0 halftime lead.
The Greyhounds started the second half the same way they started the first with two goals, this time within the first two minutes of the half. Poliskiewicz netted both goals with sophomore midfielder Catherine Duffin assisting on the first goal, and Grotyohann assisting on the second. Sophomore forward Cayley Wise netted the Hounds seventh goal of the contest after a cross pass from O'Donnell as Moravian would go up 7-0 in the 54th minute.
The Mighty Macs finally got on the board in the 58th minute as freshman midfielder Meaghan Kirk scored. Immaculata added one more goal in the 62nd minute from sophomore Ashley O'Donnell. It was too little too late for the Mighty Macs as Moravian would go onto win 7-2.
Senior goalkeeper Catherine Gottlieb played the first 58 minutes for the Hounds. She made one save while allowing one goal. Junior goalie Andrea Eck finished the game for Moravian. Freshman goalie Patsy Murphy made five saves for the Mighty Macs in 70 minutes of work.
The Greyhounds held the shot advantage at 21-7 and the penalty corner advantage at 12-7.
The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday, September 11th as they travel to FDU-Florham. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m.
