NFHCA Names 8 Greyhounds to Division III National Academic Squad; Greyhounds Also Earn Team Honor

GLEN ALLEN, VA --- Eight members of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced by the NFHCA.

Moravian was also one of 120 NCAA Division III schools to earn the honor of being named an NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award winner for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. The Greyhounds were joined on the list by all six of their Landmark Conference rivals - The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College, The University of Scranton and Susquehanna University.

Senior Catherine Gottlieb (Blackwood, N.J./Paul VI HS), junior Andrea Eck (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua HS), sophomores Taylor Holly (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat HS), Emily Marley (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon HS) and Bryn Tafuri (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland HS) and freshmen Rebecca Eisenstein (Paterson, N.Y./Carmel HS), Tiffany Gumina (Germansville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh HS) and Rebecca Hamel (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall HS) represented the Greyhounds on the squad which included over 1,360 NCAA Division III players from 146 teams. To be named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average through the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.

The group helped the Greyhounds post an 8-9 record this past fall including a 7-1 record at home.  Gottlieb was honored on the NFHCA National Academic Squad for the fourth straight year, and she posted an 8-8 record in goal with a 1.57 goals-against average, 106 saves and three shutouts this past fall. Marley had a goal in six matches before an injury cut her season short while Holly added two assists. Gumina had one assist on the season while each of the players saw action in at least ten of Moravian's 17 matches.
