Women's Indoor Track & Field Picked to Repeat as Landmark Champions

Women's Indoor Track & Field Picked to Repeat as Landmark Champions

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team has been selected to capture its seventh straight Landmark Conference title in a preseason poll of the conference coaches.

The Greyhounds received four first-place votes and a total of 47 points to finish six points ahead of Susquehanna University, which garnered the other two first-place votes.

"It's certainly nice to have the respect from other coaches going into the season, but to be honest it doesn't mean much aside from that," stated third-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "If the athletes don't put in the work, or if we as coaches don't develop and motivate the athletes during the season, then it doesn't matter. Preseason votes don't count for anything by the time the Championship meet comes around in March."

Moravian lost six-time All-American Micah Leonard to graduation, but has a strong core returning that accounted for 12 All-Conference honors indoors and 17 All-Conference honors outdoors last season. Sophomore Corinne Glass was the Landmark Indoor Co-Rookie of the Year while junior Brielle Sutter was the Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year. Senior Hailey Kester also returns after earning All-America honors in the pole vault outdoors last May.

The Greyhounds begin their indoor season at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals Invitational this weekend on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7.

The 2014 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships will be hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday, March 1.
