Women Pile on ECAC Qualifiers at Winter Games in NYC

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team picked up four more ECAC qualifying marks at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games held at the renowned New York City Armory in Manhattan on Friday.

Junior Dana Fineman continued her hot streak in the pole vault, clinching an ECAC berth with a vault of 3.45 meters (11' 3.75") to finish third place at the NYC Armory.

Freshman Lauren Suelke also broke through the ECAC qualifying barrier with a third place finish in the triple jump after a leap of 10.97 meters (36').

Junior sprinter Brielle Sutter has been knocking on the door of the ECAC qualifying marks in her short-track events leading into the Winter Games on Friday. The speedster took the definitive step forward in the Big Apple, qualifying for the ECAC's in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. She finished 25th out of 56 runners in the 200 with a time of 26.77, and placed 14th in the 400 with an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:00.06.

Junior Morgan Redmond had already qualified for ECAC's in the hurdles, but took her shot at the sprints on Friday. While missing the qualifying marks, the junior did, however, break two personal indoor records in the 200 and the 400. Her 200 time of 27.13 placed 33rd in the massive field of 56, while her 400 finish in 1:01.33 was 23rd for another PR.

The women's distance crew shared a range of emotions after its top two performers flirted with the ECAC line. Junior Claire Del Casale crushed the qualifying time with a 15th place finish in the 5,000-meter run. She stopped the clock at 18:23.23, clearing the ECAC standard by 21 seconds.

By contrast, classmate Emily Lambright missed qualifying for the indoor postseason by half a second. The junior finished seventh in the one-mile run in 5:18.58, missing the 5:18 ECAC qualifying mark.

Junior thrower Jenny Kratch rounded out a successful day for the Moravian women, placing sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.65 meters (44' 9.5"), a personal record for the junior.

The Greyhounds are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 22 for the Kutztown University Indoor Last Chance Qualifier. Moravian also has a meet scheduled the following day, Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Princeton University Invitational.
