24 Track & Field Athletes Honored by Landmark Conference

Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field awards

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's and women's indoor track & field teams have had a total of 24 student-athletes honored by the Landmark Conference for their performances at the 2014 Landmark Championships last Saturday hosted by Susquehanna University.

Third-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann and his staff of assistant coaches - Jonathan D'Ottavio (throws), Elijah Trusty (jumps), Mike Lawyrk (pole vault), Steve Rahn (sprints/hurdles) and Alyssa Wert (sprints/relays) earned both the Men's and Women's Co-Coaching Staff of the Year honors as they led the women's team to its seventh consecutive Landmark title and the men's squad to its fifth straight and sixth Landmark championship in the seven-year history of the conference. Coach Baumann and his staff shared the honors with the coaches from Susquehanna, which kept the team scores close as Moravian won the titles by 18 points on the men's side and 37 points on the women's side.

"Jesse and his staff do a great job of developing talent and putting together a championship caliber team every year," stated Athletics Director Scot Dapp.

The men's team had senior Kristopher Joint selected as the Field Athlete of the Year for a second consecutive year while junior Dillon Farrell earned Track Athlete of the Year. Freshman jumper Kahron Walker was named the Rookie of the Year for the men as well.

Joint was a member of the Landmark All-Conference First Team for wins in the triple jump for a fourth straight year and the long jump for the second time with a meet record of 7.17 meters (23 feet, 6 ¼ inches), and he also earned All-Conference Second Team honors for a runner-up finish in high jump.

Farrell earned First Team accolades in both the 3,000-meter and the 5,000-meter runs while Walker was a First Team honoree for winning the high jump.

The Moravian men had three other champions earn First Team Honors with sophomore Ryan Karnopp capturing the pole vault title, junior Jeffrey Gallagher winning the 35-pound weight throw and freshman Cory Taggert finishing first in the 800-meter run.

Taggert also earned Second Team honors along with sophomores Gavin Bailey and Tyler Dwyer and freshman Marquise Bourgeois in the 4x400-meter relay. Moravian's other Second Team honorees were sophomore Albert Myers in the long jump and 60-meter dash, senior Timothy Lorah in the weight throw, junior Parker Munson in the shot put and freshman Austin Gardener in the 200-meter dash.

Freshman Lauren Suelke led the women's team as she earned Co-Field Athlete of the Year honors. Suelke, who shared the honor with Mary Clark from The Catholic University of America, was an All-Conference First Team selection by winning the long jump.

Junior Morgan Redmond earned First Team honors in the 60-meter hurdles, and she joined with juniors Brielle Sutter and Brianna Wright and sophomore Christelle Reglas for a first place finish in the 4x200-meter relay.

Redmond and Sutter also earned All-Conference Second Team honors with sophomore Corinne Glass and senior Jennifer Smilgis  for a runner-up finish in the 4x400-meter relay. Sutter added a second place in the 200-meter dash while Smilgis was second in the 800-meter run.

Wright earned Second Team honors in the 60-meter dash while Reglas was second in the long jump. Junior Emily Lambright had second place finishes in both the mile and 3,000-meter runs while junior Claire Del Casale was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run, junior Dana Fineman in the pole vault and junior Jenny Kratch placed second in the 20-pound weight throw to round out the women's Second Team honorees.
