Joint & Zerdoum Garner Landmark Conference Weekly Honors

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College seniors sprinter Yacine Zerdoum and jumper Kristopher Joint have been named the Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

The duo combined for three top-ten finishes at the non-scoring Princeton University Tiger Open this past Saturday as the Greyhounds participated in their first meets of the spring semester and for the first time since the squad's first meet of the season back on December 7.

Zerdoum finished sixth in the 60-meter dash finals in a time of 7.30 seconds after qualifying eighth in 7.26 seconds, and he also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 23.43 seconds.

"We were happy with Yacine's weekend," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "He's having some issues with his Achilles which may have hampered him, but he still managed to make the finals of the 60m at a big meet. Quite frankly, the 60m likely isn't even his strongest event, but he's still excelling in anything we ask him to race."

Joint was second in the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 14.65 meters (48 feet, 3/4 inch) on this sixth and final jump of the meet. The distance would be good enough for the top jump in NCAA Division III this season on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list; however, Joint's best distance of the year is 14.82 meters at the season opening meet at Lehigh to already hold the top spot in the country.

"We have some fine tuning in Kris' approach to work on yet, but he's looking extremely explosive right now in practice," Baumann said. "To be honest, we felt that his jump from Saturday wasn't one of his better performances, but it was still good enough to be the top triple jump in the country so far this year. It's obviously a very encouraging sign that on an "off day" he can still produce marks that could be good enough to earn All-America honors."

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they make the trek across South Mountain for the John Covert Classic hosted by Lehigh University in Rauch Fieldhouse.
