Joint Runner-Up in Triple Jump to Earn 3rd All-America Honor

LINCOLN, Neb. --- Moravian College senior jumper Kristopher Joint earned All-America honors for the second straight day and the third time in his career with a runner-up finish in the triple jump at the 2014 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University at the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Joint's runner-up distance of 14.80 meters (48 feet, 6 ¾ inches) and came on his middle of three attempts during the second flight of the preliminaries. He opened the meet with a mark of 14.62 meters (47 feet, 11 ¾ inches) before his longest leap of the meet. Joint fouled on a longer leap on the final attempt of the preliminaries but still headed to finals in second place behind eventual champion Jamie Ruginski from the University of Southern Maine.

"This weekend was amazing and through God anything is possible," said Joint. "You should never give up on your dream."

Joint opened the finals with a mark of 13.12 meters (43 feet, ½ inch) and followed it up with a jump of 14.69 meters (48 feet, 2 ½ inches). On his last attempt of the meet, Joint went just over the end of the board for a foul but his best jump was still 7 ¾ inches ahead of Aman Stuppard from Trinity (Conn.) College in third place.

"We've been saying all year that Kris is consistent, and this is the fifth meet he has jumped at least 14.80 meters," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "At NCAA's, it's not about setting huge personal records, it's about performing to your abilities when you only have one chance, unlike a mark on a performance list which is the culmination of multiple jumps and meets. He performed well yet again today but just went up against a guy who put up a great mark.

"We're proud of what he's done. That's three All-America awards for him, and hopefully more to come in outdoors after some much-needed rest," Baumann finished.

Moravian tied for 13th of the 68 teams that scored a point in the meet with eight points from Joint's runner-up finish Saturday. Joint also added three points to the team score with his sixth place in the long jump on Friday while sophomore Ryan Karnopp scored two points with his seventh place in the pole vault on Friday.
